Stress. Everyone has it.

Stress and Stress Relief

Stress.  Everyone has it.  Unfortunately,  trying to get rid of it is harder for some people.  Stress can hurt our bodies, our minds and our spirit.  There is a national epidemic and a world wide pandemic of stress related illnesses and accidents.

Not all is lost.  There are things you can do today to help alleviate some of the stress:

Excersise.  Walk to the mailbox, walk your child to work, walk to lunch, it really doesn't matter how far, just as long as you walk everyday.

Carve out five minutes of your day for you.  Lock yourself in your room, the bathroom, the closet....walk outside of your office building, sit on a park bench....give yourself five minutes to take five deep breaths before going back to your life.

Eat fruit and vegetables.  Take a bag of carrots and dip with your lunch.  Munch on an apple while waiting for the train.  Eat vegetable soup.

You can also employ natural remedies such as massage, aromatherapy and energy work.  Aromatherapy is an amazing tool.  It can be used by anyone.  As a matter of fact, you use your olfactory system every minute of everyday.  The smell of someone's perfume - it evokes happiness or arousal .  The smell of popcorn - it makes you hungry and crave popcorn.  The smell of lemon - it makes your mouth water.

Lavender and chamomile essential oils have been used for centuries as stress reducers.  I've made a lovely herbal tea bath that has essential oil infused epsom salts that will help sooth the skin while also soothing the mind and spirit.

Me And My Olfactory

Me.

I grew up as a US Military brat.  I have lived in Germany for a little less than half of my life.  I have fond memories of backereis, metzgereis, and apothocaries.  I loved walking to the downtown Market and smelling all of the beautiful fragrances of fresh baked breads, lovely cheeses, meats, fresh flowers, honey and herbs.  What I loved even more are the Christmas Markets with fresh gluhwein, roasting wursts, beer and cold, crisp air.

When we would visit our relatives, I remember walking into my grandmother's, aunt's or cousin's home in Santa Fe, New Mexico and know that fresh posole, green or red chile,  tortillas and biscochitos were being made.  The smells of garlic, onion, cumin, oregano, anise, cinnamon and chile played a dominant role in my life.

I guess you could say that the Markets of Europe and my relative's homes in New Mexico played a strong factor with my olfactory system.

I have a strong affinity for herbs, aromatherapy, massage and as- natural-as-can-be products.  When I started having children of my own, I realized that I wanted natural care for them, this included the medicines I was giving them.  I would always do a taste test first.  If I couldn't stand the way it tasted, or the medicine made my feet curl, I couldn't give it to my children.

(Super side note:  I am absolutely grateful that I live in the era that I do.  Modern Medicine is amazing,  fascinating and immensely helpful; however, for common dis-eases, such as a cold, heartburn, and/or skin irritants, I don't subscribe to allopathic medicine.)

I've been studying aromatherapy for about fifteen years; however, I am taking certification classes so that I will be as knowledgeable as Kurt Schnaubelt, Ph.D., Robert Tisserand, Dr. Jean Valnet, MD, Valerie Ann Worwood.  These people, to me, are the catalysts of aromatherapy being accepted as a  scientifically-endorsed arena.

Aromatherapy and Herbology walk hand in hand.  Since the majority of essences come from herbs, it makes sense to me to learn as much about herbs as well.  I am working on getting my Master Herbalist certification.

My Introduction

Hi and welcome to my new blog, The Healer's Hands.  I wanted a place where I could show case my shop, aromatherapy, massage, walking, healing naturally and recipes all in one place.

So to get things started, this is my shop introduction

With all of the chemicals that inundate our lives on a daily basis, it’s not surprising that humanity is grappling with uncommon diseases and “superbugs”. As a Reiki Master and Dual Action Life Force Healer (DALFH), I have made it my business to provide all natural healing products for my clients.

As a wife and mother, all the products that you find in my shop are exactly what I use to heal my own family. Some of the most common ailments that my products treat include eczema, fevers, cough, flu and tummy aches to name only a few. I use Illipe butter as a primary ingredient in my salves and butters. Illipe butter is expeller pressed and rendered from whole Illipe nuts. It is renowned for its incredible moisturizing properties and its ability to restore elasticity to the skin. It is comparable to cocoa butter and is beneficial for the treatment of numerous skin, as well as hair, disorders.

It has been a lifelong goal of mine to explore every avenue of healing and natural medicine that is known to man. As a nationally certified Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork Therapist, I continue with my pursuit of knowledge and am currently studying naturopathic medicine and aromatherapy.

Each of my custom blended natural remedies help to heal the mind, body and spirit. Some of my most beneficial and trusted products include natural salves, butters and “ouch” pouches. Last but not least, I offer some of my hand painted artwork in my Etsy shop because I also believe that filling your space with beautiful objects helps to nourish the body and mind.
